B.C. Truck Driver Sued Over Mountie’s Death

VANCOUVER, B.C. – Canada’s attorney general, basically the Crown’s  chief law officer, is suing a Surrey truck driver over a crash that killed a Mountie in 2012.

Const. Adrian Oliver died in November 2012 when his unmarked police cruiser slammed into a semi-tractor at an intersection in the city southeast of Vancouver.

Const. Oliver was on duty, looking for a stolen pick-up around 5 a.m. on Nov. 13, 2012, and did not have his emergency lights on, the RCMP stated.

Now a civil suit is before the B.C. Supreme Court, claiming that Heaven Transport driver Harjit Lotay made a negligent driving move, which caused his vehicle to directly cross paths with the oncoming RCMP vehicle.

The attorney general accuses Lotay of driving without care, failure to yield the right of way and driving while in some way impaired. Nothing’s been proven in court. The suit seeks special damages from Lotay and his employer for the loss of a police car.
