Canada Customs automated info service changes

OTTAWA, (June 21, 2005) — The name of the Automated Customs Information Service (ACIS) system has been changed to Border Information Service (BIS), in order to better reflect the business lines of the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), the department stated in a press release.

BIS is a computerized, bilingual, 24-hour 1-800 telephone service that automatically answers all incoming calls and provides general border services information. Callers can also speak directly to an agent Monday to Friday (except holidays) during regular business hours (8:00 to 16:00 local time).

There are two call centres: one in Winnipeg, and the other in Saint John.

The name change will be reflected on the Internet, intranet, and in CBSA publications, as they are updated.
