Canada Customs workers initiate job action
SARNIA, Ont. — The Ontario Trucking Association has learned that Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) at the Blue Water Bridge in Sarnia has begun a job action.
OTA says that commercial traffic is not currently being affected and CBSA is processing commercial vehicles through three lanes. The dedicated FAST lane is not functioning, however carriers can clear FAST in any of the other three primary lanes.
As of 10:00 am today, the CBSA’s border wait times information on its website indicated there were no delays.
CBSA management is working with Labour Canada to resolve the current situation.
OTA is asking for feedback from member carriers should this job action have a negative affect on Canada bound operations.
Contact OTA’s Geoff Wood by email at geoffrey.wood@ontruck.org indicating how many of your trucks were affected by this job action, how long they were delayed, and the approximate cost in productivity loss to your operation.
