Canadian Ground Transport Costs Continue Slide

TORONTO — Total Cost of ground transportation for Canadian shippers dropped 2.6 percent in June from May, according to the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI).

The Base Rate Index dropped by 1.6 percent from May in June. While Average Fuel Surcharges saw a drop from 20.26 percent of Base Rates to 19.26 percent in June.

“Cross Border Truckload was the main driver of the freight cost decline.” said Doug Payne, president and COO, Nulogx. “Fuel as a percentage of freight costs have dropped to the same level as a year ago,” he noted.
