Cancom Fleet Management Service

Cancom Tracking, which provides satellite-based vehicle tracking and communications using Qualcomm’s OmniTRACS unit, has signed two agreements that add new management features to the system.

Cancom announced it will resell Maptuit Corp.’s FleetNav navigation service, which provides routing optimization and instructions to drivers. Maptuit FleetNav integrates with Cancom’s standard driver interfaces and MVPc wireless technologies, to provide door-to-door routes, travel time estimates, and easy-to-follow directions. Using the most current position reports provided by OmniTRACS, drivers request directions from their mobile terminal and receive optimized directions to the load origin, destination, stop, or service location right from their cab. FleetNav also provides web-based reporting tools to create and maintain precise geo-coordinates for all customers and delivery destinations.

Cancom Tracking also plans to package TurnpikeDirect, an Internet-based system that provides automatic fuel and mileage tax reporting, with its satellite-based communications service. Developed by Turnpike Global Technologies of Stoney Creek, Ont., TurnpikeDirect takes vehicle location data generated by the vehicle tracking system, determines the number of miles driven in any given state or province (by truck and by fleet), and then creates reports for tax reporting. Since Turnpike’s software is accessed online, any tax rate changes and upgrades are automatically added as they become available-you don’t have to install new software yourself.
