Cancom to acquire Star Choice

TORONTO — Canadian satellite communications provider Cancom announced plans to acquire Star Choice Communications in a swap of stock. The deal is expected to close in February 1999, and is subject to government and shareholder approval.

Star Choice will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Cancom.

Cancom is a leader in the domestic business-to-business satellite communications marketplace. Among its products and services are Qualcomm OmniTRACS vehicle-tracking solutions for truck fleets.

Star Choice is a direct-to-home provider of satellite services.

“Given the complementary cultures, financial positions, and business plans of Cancom and Star Choice, I am confident that the proposed arrangements will bring long-term rewards to all of our shareholders,” said Cancom president and CEO Duncan McEwan.
