CBP scraps ‘per crossing’ fee for ACE carriers

CHAMPLAIN, N.Y. — U.S. Customs and Border Protection will stop collecting a "per crossing" user fee from approved carriers at the primary inspection booth at the Champlain, N.Y. border.

The change is effective this weekend, on Oct. 5, 2008.

The move is intended to "further expedite those carriers that have fully participated in the CBP commercial modernization efforts." Carriers that are participating in Automated Commercial Environment, ACE, e-Manifest, as well as the CBP user fee decal/transponder technology, may be released directly from primary if there are no other issues associated with their ACE trip.

Carriers that still have to pay their user fees on a per crossing basis, will be referred to the secondary processing counter for collection of fees.
