Champion drivers crowned in the East

SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — The Atlantic Provinces Trucking Association’s annual Atlantic Professional Truck Driving Championships crowned several outstanding drivers over the weekend.

The event held June 8, at Slemon Park, saw 33 heavy-duty drivers show off their superior skills in two categories — the two- and five-axle straight trucks.

For the two-axle class winners were: first place, Roy Mattinson of Roy B. Mattinson and Sons Trucking out of Pugwash, N.S. Second place was won by Sandy Cooke of Armour Transportation Systems out of Moncton, N.B. The professionalism award went to Tom Canning of Woodstock Transport (1992) Ltd. of Waterville, N.B.

For the five-axle class winners were: first place, Kevin Burns of Armour Transportation Systems out of Moncton, N.B. Second place was won by Gerald Cross of Pol Star Transport in Dartmouth, N.S. The professionalism award was presented to Bob McKibbon also of Pol Star Transport.

The rookie of the year award was presented to Michael Wiley of Warren Transport out of Rexton, N.B.
