BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Class 8 truck orders surged 39% in October to 25,960 units, according to preliminary data from FTR.

That marks a 14% year-over-year gain and the highest order volume since December 2011. Order for the three-month period concluding in October annualized 244,500 units.

“The increase in orders is broad-based and not isolated to any one OEM,” said Don Ake, vice-president of FTR. “The number is at the high end of our expectations and will likely help to solidify build activity in the short term. The three-month annualized rate is right in line with our 2014 forecast.”
