COMPETITION WATCH: DHL Express signs on to ViaSafe customs software

OTTAWA, Ont.– DHL Express and ViaSafe have signed a contract enabling DHL to use ViaSafe’s ViaTrade services. The ViaTrade services will enable DHL to clear international packages more efficiently; reduce transit times and improve service; and reduce the associated costs to DHL, says the company, which provides an e-business service designed to increase border security and improve cross-border trade flow between United States and Canada. <br>

ViaTrade accomplishes this task by facilitating data exchange between carriers and customs brokers/importers, gathering the comprehensive data required for border clearance is provided electronically–before shipments arrive at the Canada-U.S border. <br>

“We expect ViaTrade will improve efficiencies and reduce the costs associated with facilitating the clearance process,” said DHL Canada Senior Vice-President Operations John Ferreira.<br>

“ViaTrade has the unique ability to connect carriers, brokers and government agencies with continuously updated directories which automatically send the right documents to the right participants in a timely fashion,” said Oryst Dydynsky President, ViaSafe International Trade Services. <br>
