Contrans acquires flatbed hauler

WOODSTOCK, Ont. — Contrans Group Inc. has acquired Truboy Freight International Inc. and plans to blend the Ontario-based flatbed carrier with an existing operation.

Contrans plans to blend Truboy into Laidlaw Carriers Flatbed, which currently operates from offices in Hagersville, Ont.

Truboy was created by Jim Trull in 1982 in Oakville, Ont. The company originally consisted mainly of owner-operators, but Trull eventually began to purchase his own trucks and trailers.

The fleet eventually moved to Hamilton to accommodate its growth, and most recently purchased 5.5 acres in Beamsville, Ont. complete with a 8,000 sq ft shop.

"Adding Truboy to our existing flatbed operations in Ontario offers the existing Truboy customers a great platform for growth and expanded service capacity; and for the existing Laidlaw operation, this acquisition will extend our reach to a new customer base,” states Stan Dunford, CEO of Contrans. “This should prove valuable to all parties."
