Contrans bets on flatbed with another fleet purchase

WOODSTOCK, Ont. — Contrans Group announced today that it has acquired the flatbed trucking business of Aim Transportation Systems of Hamilton, Ont.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Aim Transportation consists of 15 tractors and 22 tandem flatbed trailers and will be based out of Contrans’ terminal located in Hagersville, Ont.

"This tuck-in acquisition complements our leading position in the tandem flatbed market," stated Contrans’ chairman and CEO Stan Dunford.

"We like the mid to long-term prospects for this market. Accordingly, we believe that acquiring additional drivers and hauling capacity as well as expanding our customer base now will create additional long-term shareholder value."

This is the second fleet acquisition by Contrans this month. In early July it purchased two St. Barthelemy, Que.-based bulk and flatbed haulers — Enterprises S&S and Logistique Barthelemy.

Contrans is one of the 15 largest for-hire carriers in Canada with over 1,000 trucks and owner-ops and 2,000 trailers.
