Cost of Ground Transportation Up in August
TORONTO — The cost of shipping freight on the ground in Canada went up in August by 0.8 percent, according to the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI).
The numbers were released by Nulogx, the Mississauga-based freight-auditing experts.
Average fuel surcharges assessed by carriers went up to 19.63 percent in August 2012, compared to 18.78 percent in July.
“This increase was seen in all segments of LTL and TL for domestic and cross-border freight,” said Doug Payne, Nulogx president and COO. “But base freight costs are now within two percent of August 2011.”
The base rate index, which excludes the impact of accessory-based charges to carriers, increased by 1.5 percent when compared to July 2012.
