CTA opens new offices in Ottawa heritage building

OTTAWA, Ont. – The Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA) will have a new home at 324 Somerset Street West in Ottawa’s Somerset Village district starting Nov. 4.

CTA purchased the building, a three-storey brown brick heritage building called Butterworth House, earlier this year. The office is a 10-minute walk from Parliament Hill.

Prominent Ottawa Builder James A. Corry constructed Butterworth House in 1893-94 for Charles A. Butterworth. Butterworth and his two brothers came from Cape Breton, N.S. and developed one of Ottawa’s largest hardware manufacturing and supply businesses. Officially designated as a heritage property in 1980 by the City of Ottawa and the Province of Ontario, the house is an outstanding example of Queen Anne revival architecture.

CTA marked the upcoming opening of its new offices with a reception for board members and guests Oct. 17.

Attending the reception were the provincial trucking association managers from across the country, carrier board members, including all but one of the alliance’s past chairmen, and several members of the CTA Team Canada Elite group of industry suppliers.

“CTA’s purchase of Butterworth House is an investment not only in the Alliance’s presence in Ottawa today, but for future generations in the industry,” said CTA president David Bradley in a brief address to those in attendance.

“It is a statement that CTA will be a force to be reckoned with for years to come,” said CTA chairman, John Cyopeck, CEO of Canpar Transport.
