Detroit deputy says deal OK with bridge company

DETROIT — Anthony Adams, Detroit Deputy Mayor for the City of Detroit, has issued a statement disputing a City Council resolution warning him to cease signing “long term contractual obligations” without approval from Council.

Earlier this week, TodaysTrucking.com learned that Adams was warned by Council he would be made to forfeit his title if he continued to overstep his position.

In the resolution document, Adams was accused to have approved without Council’s consent, two deals with the Ambassador Bridge Co., which is owned by trucking mogul and Mayoral campaign contributor Matty Moroun.

One deal gave the company the right to manage Detroit Marine Terminals and also included the right to run other transportation projects that the port authority may build on the property.

Adams said in his statement that he signed the agreement in his capacity as president of the Detroit Port Development Corp., the authority that would work with the bridge company in developing the property.

The other deal– a $30 million offer by Moroun to take over the lease of the U.S. side of the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel starting in 2020 — was an agreement in principal which has since been put on hold by the Mayor.
