ExpoCam crowd sets record!

MONTREAL — The results are in. Visitor attendance at ExpoCam 2011 was up by over 10 percent compared with the 2009 show and broke the overall crowd record.

ExpoCam, which ran from April 7 to 9 at Place Bonaventure in downtown Montreal, is a division of Newcom Media Quebec Inc.

The show attracted over 13,500 vistors and exhibitors – close to 1,000 more than 2009 and a boost from the previous record in 2007.

Newcom Show Manager Joan Wilson says the turnout was higher than expected and she interpreted the strong showing as a clear signal that the economic tide has turned.

“It seems like people wanted to celebrate the beginning of the economic recovery,” Wilson said. “We were swamped on Saturday with all the drivers and Owner Operators coming in but were pleasantly surprised with the stronger than usual turnouts on Thursday and Friday as well.”

A feature added this year was a new tracking system incorporated with the registration program. “In an effort to provide our exhibitors and sponsors with as much detail as possible we introduced a more complex scanning system. Now we can track on-site visitors separately from the registration list,” explained Wilson. “A good show is a good show, but everyone wants to see the numbers afterwards!”

Added Joe Glionna, general manager, Newcom Media Quebec: “Visitors are what count at the end of the day and we delivered more than ever. This is not only good for the exhibitors but I think shows a real improvement in our industry overall and bodes well for the future.”

Over 230 companies exhibited at the show. “The exhibitor support for ExpoCam proves once again that no matter how technology and communication change, nothing beats face-to-face interaction for meeting with prospects and getting deals done,” states Glionna.

More than 20 manufacturers launched new products and services at ExpoCam 2011, chief among them Caterpillar, which decided on ExpoCam for the Canadian debut of its brand new CT 660 truck.

Other new products ranged from Mitsubishi Fuso’s new Canter to Tidewater Container System’s innovative container lock-down system. A full list of the New Products on display can be found on the website www.expocam.ca.

ExpoCam is endorsed by the Association du Camionnage du Quebec (ACQ) and the Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA).
