SIMCOE, Ont. — Starting this fall, Fanshawe College in Simcoe will be offering a Transportation Program in partnership with KRTS (Kim Richardson Transportation Specialists Inc.).

The program is designed for individuals who wish to become professional drivers. The six-week Professional Truck Driver Institute (PTDI) Certified Course recognized by carriers across North America. Some have already invested in the program that will be offered at Fanshawe.

Donna Gates, Principal of the James N. Allan Campus in Simcoe is excited about the partnership with KRTS.
“We couldn’t be happier to be bringing this new program to our area and to be doing so in partnership with one of the largest truck-driver training facilities in Ontario. KRTS has the reputation for quality and the respect within the trucking industry that we were looking for. This program will meet a need within our community and that is always of utmost importance to us,” said Gates.

Said Kim Richardson, President of KRTS Transportation Specialists Inc., “We look forward with great anticipation to working with Fanshawe College and the trucking community in Simcoe and the surrounding area. Fanshawe is a leader in the community and is recognized as a fine college. With all of the changes going on with the Ministry of Transportation Test Facilities and the need for a higher quality of educational programs in the transportation industry, we see our partnership with Fanshawe as a good fit.”

The KRTS facility in Caledonia is geared to produce 300 graduates per year, and Richardson said the preferred carriers they deal with would take another 300 if they could certify them.

Both leaders said they look forward to the potential of developing additional training opportunities within the transportation industry.
