ST. CROIX, N.S. — Heavy smoke from a forest fire in Hants County, N.S. has forced the closure of Hwy. 101.

RCMP officers say they were forced to close the highway between exits three and four and reroute traffic along Hwy. 1.

The offending forest fire is burning about two kilometres east of the St. Croix turn-off.

A number of fire departments from as far away as Wolfville have been called in to help battle the blaze. As well, the provincial Department of Natural Resources has committed a number of firefighters and a helicopter.
