Former Dynamex boss following yellow brick roadway to YRC

KANSAS CITY – It’s becoming apparent why James L. Welch, the former head of TransForce’s recently acquired Dynamex arm, announced his resignation earlier the week.

According to reports, Welch — who just a few days ago was the CEO of same-day delivery and logistics provider Dynamex — will follow the yellow brick road to Kansas to take the reins from William D. Zollars at YRC Worldwide.

Zollars — YRC’s chairman, president, and CEO – will retire soon after the completion of the beleaguered company’s current restructuring plan with the Teamsters and lenders, scheduled for closing today, July 22.

Earlier this week, TransForce announced that Welch was leaving Dynamex to pursue other interests.

"James was instrumental in building Dynamex into a highly respected brand in the North American package and courier industry. We wish him good luck in his new career," stated Alain Bédard, Chairman, President and CEO.

Welch began his career in 1978 with Yellow Transportation, the predecessor to YRC before it acquired Roadway Corp.. He became president of Yellow in 2000 and kept that job until joining Dynamex in 2007.

The company will also announce a new eight-person board of directors, of which two members will reportedly be chosen by the Teamsters.
