Four Take Home APTA Top Driving Honors

DIEPPE, NB — The Atlantic Provinces Trucking Association Safety Council gave out top marks over the weekend to the most talented professional drivers at APTA’s Annual Professional Driving Championships.

Forty-nine professional drivers competed for a chance on Saturday to become part of Team Atlantic who will be competing in the National Driving Championships in September hosted in Regina, SK.

First place winners:

  • 2‐Axle: Roy Mattinson, Roy B. Mattinson & Sons Trucking
  • 4‐Axle: Steve MacPhee, Day & Ross Transportation Group
  • 5‐Axle: Norman Gallant, Midland Transport Limited
  • B‐Train: Rob Stevens, Home Hardware Stores Limited

Midland Transport Limited took home the team award and Peter O’Connell of Home Hardware Stores was named Rookie of the Year.

2 Axle (Straight Truck)

  • 1st place – Roy Mattinson, Roy B. Mattinson & Sons Trucking
  • 2nd place – James L. Chambers, Armour Transportation Systems
  • 3rd place – Art Burns, Connors Transfer Ltd.
  • Professionalism – Art Burns, Connors Transfer Ltd.

4 Axle (Single Tandem)

  • 1st place – Steve MacPhee, Day & Ross Transportation Group
  • 2nd place – Herb Peters, Day & Ross Transportation Group
  • 3rd place – John Chambers, Armour Transportation Systems
  • Professionalism – Herb Peters, Day & Ross Transportation Group

5 Axle (Tandem Tandem)

  • 1st place – Norman Gallant, Armour Transportation Systems
  • 2nd place – Jean‐Marc Detraz, Keltic Transportation Inc.
  • 3rd place – Ken Swinamer, Connors Transfer Ltd.
  • Professionalism – Norman Gallant, Armour Transportation Systems

 BTrain (Super B Train)

  • 1st place – Rob Stevens, Home Hardware Stores Limited
  • 2nd place – Bill Morrison, Sunbury Transport Limited
  • 3rd place – Allison Godreau, Day & Ross Transportation Group
