Ground Transportation Costs Lower in 2012 Than 2011

2012 finished 2.95% below December of 2011.

TORONTO — The total cost of ground transportation for shippers increased by 1.14% in December over November, according to the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI).

Despite that uptick, 2012 finished 2.95% below December of 2011, said Doug Payne, president and COO, Nulogx.

“Looking at 2012, January and February saw increases in Total Freight Costs however those gains and more were lost in March to June and for the balance of the year we saw Total Freight Costs remain relatively flat with a slight uptick in December,” summed up Payne.

The Base Rate Index for December 2012 increased marginally by 0.34% when compared to November 2012. Average Fuel Surcharges assessed by carriers have decreased from 20.56% of Base Rates in November to 19.66% in December.
