Manitoba announces $261M for bridges

WINNIPEG — About a quarter of a billion dollars has been earmarked by the Manitoba government to repair and replace bridges.

The $261 million, to be spent over five years, was announced by Premier Gary Doer as he was speaking to the Manitoba Heavy Construction Association, reports Canadian Press.

The fund would boost the annual budget for bridge construction to five times the amount it was in the 1990s.

“Sharpen your pencils and start your tendering process,” Doer said.
The plan allows for about $50 million to be spent annually.

The province is making available a list of 63 bridges that will be replaced or fixed over the next five years.
