Manitoba drivers square off

WINNIPEG — There may not be a national competition this year, but Manitoba drivers are still going to see who is tops in the province.

This Saturday, June 27, 39 drivers will be competing in the 2009 Manitoba Professional Truck Driving Championship. This year’s event will be held at Peterbilt Manitoba in Winnipeg and features drivers in six different classes: step van, straight truck, single-single, single-tandem, tandem-tandem, and super B train.

Each of the competitors must complete the written test, defects station, and obstacle course. The competition begins at 8:00 a.m. and is expected to last until 4:00 p.m. Spectators are welcome to this free event.

B.C. will also be holding their provincial championships on June 27, while Alberta’s competition ran on June 20.

If there is sufficient support, the 2010 National Professional Truck Driving Championships will be held in Manitoba.
