Manitoba pledges funds for driver training

WINNIPEG (July 30, 1999) — Manitoba Education and Training Minister Jim McCrae said the province would provide $1.1 million to the Manitoba Trucking Industry Education Advisory Committee to train 200 out-of-work Manitobans as truck drivers.

The funds are part of a $9.4 million package raised by the province and private industry for new training and human resources initiatives.

“For a business or industry to take advantage of exciting new opportunities in the global marketplace, they must have a skilled and adaptable workforce,” said McCrae. “Human resource planning and training employees at their workplace will give Manitoba business and industry a global competitive advantage.”
