Manitoba to hold seminars on revised driver abstracts

WINNIPEG (May 17) — Now that Manitoba¹s new driver abstract is in place, provincial transport officials want to make sure fleet managers know how to interpret the revised forms.

The Manitoba Highways and Transportation division of driver and vehicle licensing is planning a series of seminars to further explain the new abstracts, which came into effect on May 1.

The abstract was revised to better describe driver backgrounds. The new categories of information used for reporting purposes and the period of time covered are:

> Criminal Code convictions: last 10 years.

> “Driving-while-disqualified” convictions under the Highway Traffic Act: 10 years.

> Active Suspensions: all;

> Roadside breathalyzer suspensions: 5 years;

> NSC hours of service suspensions: 5 years;

> Inactive suspensions: 5 years;

> Active prohibitions: All;

> Inactive prohibitions: 5 years;

> Driver improvement control actions: 5 years.

Later this year, the abstract will include other transportation-related convictions dating back five years, and all accidents dating back five years. An accident is determined when the damage exceeds $1000 or personal injury or death was a result (in cases where no fault is ascribed to the trucker, a “no fault” notation will appear on the abstract).
