Maritimes give truckers a brake lesson

HALIFAX — Need your brakes checked out? The Maritime Provinces will do it for free this week.

Starting today, and going through until Thurs. Aug. 31, 2006, Atlantic transportation safety inspectors will be set up along highways offering free brake check-ups. Truckers worried they’ll get tagged for letting their brakes slip out of adjustment need not worry, say officials. Those that seek brake safety advice won’t be driving away with a ticket.

Inspection teams from Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island, will be on hand to help truckers conduct a proper brake inspection.

Brake defects are the number one reason trucks get placed out-of-service in North America.

The program – titled Have You Checked Your Brakes Today – is being co-sponsored by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance and the Atlantic Provinces Trucking Association.
