More lanes, rest stops on B.C. truckers’ wish-list

LANGLEY, B.C.- Based on input from members, the B.C. Trucking Association (BCTA) submitted a list to the B.C. Ministry of Transportation, prioritizing transportation infrastructure investments.

Here are the BCTA’s top five infrastructure priorities:

  • Making Highway 1 from Kamloops to the B.C.-Alberta border a four lane-highway;
  • Improving and adding rest stops;
  • Making Highway 1 from Hope to Langley a six-lane highway;
  • Upgrading Highways 5 and 16 from the Sun Peaks exit north of Kamloops to the B.C.-Alberta border;
  • Upgrading Highway 3 by adding more four-lane segments or passing lanes.

The BCTA also asked for:

  • Additional pull-outs and parking during curfew hours for oversize-overweight vehicles between Metro Vancouver and Prince Rupert and the B.C.-Alberta border (i.e., Hwy 1/5 and Hwy 16 corridors);
  • Making Highway 97 from Cache Creek to Prince George a four-lane highway.

The ministry says the 10-year provincial transportation plan will be ready for presentation in early spring of 2015 and available online at the B.C. on the Move website.
