NAFTA land trade largest Y-Y gain since 2002

WASHINGTON — Land trade between Canada, the U.S. and Mexico was up 19.5 percent this past January from the same month in 2009, the largest year-over-year gain since March 2000.

However, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS), January’s figures were still down 3 percent from December.

U.S. land transportation trade with Canada, specifically, accounted for $34.2 billion in January, 18 percent higher than January 2009. The value of imports carried by truck was up 7.2 percent from January 2009, while the value of exports carried by truck was 17.1 percent higher during this period.
