NAFTA roadway trade rises over 10%

WASHINGTON — North American surface trade among the three NAFTA countries jumped 10.5 percent in July from 2006, even though truck trade declined.

According to the Department of Transportation, trade among Canada, the U.S., and Mexico reached $61.8 billion. U.S. truck imports increased 6.3 percent from 2006 to $24.5 billion, while exports rose 8.3 percent to $23 billion.

Rail imports rose 13.5 percent to $6.1 billion, while exports increased 1.9 percent to $2.8 billion.
