WASHINGTON – U.S.-Canada surface transportation trade totaled $39.9 billion in August, up 21.1 percent from the same month in 2009.

The value of imports from Canada carried by truck was 23.2 percent higher compared to August 2009, while exports was 19.8 percent higher, according to the DOT’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics.

Overall, surface transportation between the U.S. and both NAFTA partners Canada and Mexico was 25.3 percent higher in August 2010 than last year, reaching $68 billion.

However, the value remained 5.9 percent below the August 2008 level despite the 2009-2010 increase.
