NAFTA Trade Rises in July, Pipelines See Big Growth

WASHINGTON — The value of U.S. trade with Canada and Mexico rose 6.3 percent in July year-to-year, according to the July North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) freight data released by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS).

The transportation mode with the biggest year-to-year growth was pipelines at 25 percent. Trucks rose 5.3 percent, rail rose 4.5 percent and air grew 6.3 percent. Ship vessels logged a slight decrease of 0.3 percent.

In total, July saw $93.2 billion of freight moved between the U.S. and its NAFTA partners, with truck 59.2 percent of that, rail at 14.6 percent, vessels at 9.4 percent, pipeline with 8.3 percent and air carried 3.7 percent.
