NAFTA truck trade rises

WASHINGTON — Surface trade between Canada, the U.S. and Mexico increased by another 4.2 percent — hitting $69.2 billion — in August from the same month in 2006, the U.S. Transportation Department announced.

U.S. imports by truck rose 2.2 percent to $24.7 billion, while exports rose 3.3 percent to $23.4 billion.

Rail imports increased by 10.7 percent to $8.4 billion, while exports also rose 4.2 percent to $3.7 billion.

About 90 percent of U.S. trade among NAFTA partners moves via land.
