National roadside survey kicks off today

OTTAWA (Aug. 18, 1999) — Over the next two weeks, federal and provincial transport officials will be asking truckers where they’re going, what they’re hauling, and what they’re driving as during a national study of commercial trucking.

The 1999 National Roadside Study (NRS ’99) is a voluntary survey conducted every four years in order to collect information on commercial truck traffic for a national database. The NRS ’99 collects data on truck routings, origins and destinations, types of cargo transported, and heavy truck configurations used.

The survey, which runs from today through Aug. 31, is co-ordinated by the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators and Transport Canada.
