Ontario Trucking Association Shuffles Leadership Team

TORONTO- The Ontario Trucking Association (OTA) has announced a new board of directors, executive committee and chairman at their 88th annual convention.

Scott Tilley, co-president of the Tandet Group of Oakville, ON, is the OTA’s new chairman.

“[The OTA may have been an old boy’s club] prior to deregulation, but with a thousand members and a board of over 70 carriers representing all segments of the carrier community, it’s sure not true today,” Tilley says. “What is true is that as part of the OTA process, you do get to meet a lot of carriers and some of them become business associates and friends – I see that as a huge benefit.”

“Being in a family business is challenging enough; being in a family business in the trucking industry can bring even more challenges,” Tilley says. “Many trucking companies are family-owned and operated. The OTA has allowed me to meet and share experiences on the challenges of a family trucking business, while also sharing and learning from corporate OTA members. I have found this mix to be enormously helpful over the years.”

As chairman, Tilley will focus on the association’s sustainability and will meet with the OTA’s new executive committee to review the association’s vision and missions.

The executive committee is made up of the officers of the association, 12 at-large members, any past chairmen who are still in business and the chair of the OTA Allied Trades Division.

The new board of directors has 72 carrier members and three reps of the OTA Allied Trades Division.

“The OTA board reflects every facet of the carrier community,” said OTA president and CEO David Bradley. “Every size of carrier, every type of operation, from every region, hauling every conceivable product and every form of service offering is represented on the board.

“When the OTA board takes a policy decision, not only are we able to benefit from all the experience and knowledge around the table, we’re also confident that it has the support of the broad spectrum of carriers. It allows us to speak with one voice.”
