PEI capital redraws trucking map

CHARLOTTETOWN — For the first time since it was amalgamated over 10 years ago, the city of Charlottetown is revising its trucking routes map.

City police, reports the Charlottetown Guardian, will be enforcing many of the new truck routes in PEI’s capital with zero tolerance.

The city had been getting many complaints about trucks — most gravel haulers — taking shortcuts through residential areas.

Police haven’t acted until now because the rules were too ambiguous for truckers prior to these latest maps being drawn up, reports the Guardian.

Heavy trucks are now permitted on Route 2, University Avenue, St. Peters Road, the Charlottetown Perimeter Highway and selected side streets.

A complete list of revised truck routes can be seen at the City of Charlottetown’s website (www.city.charlottetown.pe.ca).
