Penske Joins CargoNet To Combat Cargo Crime

READING, PA—Penske Logistics has teamed up with CargoNet, a cargo theft prevention and recovery service, to improve its freight security methods for customers on the receiving end of its supply chain.

As much as five billion worth of goods fall off the back of a truck annually in Canada alone. The number of recorded incidents in Canada rose by 18 percent from 2011 to 2012 and most of the crime is centered around the Greater Toronto Area, Montreal, Edmonton and Vancouver.

CargoNet shares information about known cargo theft incidents or suspicious activity with its members and is managed by crime analysts trained to prevent cargo theft.  CargoNet has about 150 U.S. members and 20 Canadian members.

Penske’s Director of Loss Prevention, Aaron Henderson, commented: “We joined CargoNet to provide us with greater visibility across different states and regions of the United States. It allows us to better identify areas that require additional security and when a theft does take place we’re able to move quickly to recover the assets.”
