SAINT-JÉRÔME, Quebec — Yves Provencher has been named senior manager of business development at the Lion Electric Co., an up-and-coming manufacturer of all-electric commercial vehicles.

Provencher is the well known director, emerging markets, at the Quebec-based PIT Group, which he created within FP Innovations in 2008. He has managed it ever since, building the organization’s enviable reputation across Canada and the United States, by helping fleets embrace new tools and methods through neutral third-party testing of known and emerging technologies.

He has worked closely with fleet managers and technology providers across the continent and is a member of numerous technical committees while also serving on several boards.

“Lion is proud to add such a leader in the industry transportation industry to its team,” the company said in a press release. “In fact, Yves has focused his career on speeding up technological implementation in the transport fleets. He first worked with the forest transport fleets, then in freight transport, and more recently, it was in the transport of people that he made his mark.”

Launched in 2008, Lion has focused mostly on all-electric school buses. Its LionC is the only such bus manufactured in North America. There are many in service now, deployed across the continent.

This fall the vertically integrated company is due to introduce its eLion8, a tandem-axle class 8 truck or tractor with custom-built frame and cab. It will come with several wheelbase offerings, air or leaf-spring suspensions, and a variety of power options, all of them plug-in electric. Top speed will be up to 105 km/h.

Using lithium-ion batteries up to 480 kWh, the truck will develop as much as 470 hp (350 kW) and a whopping maximum torque of up to 2580 lb ft (3500 Nm). A regenerative braking system is employed to improve range and reduce brake maintenance.

“We believe Yves will do a great job at bringing all his knowledge and expertise to Lion,” the company says, “both in the field of innovation and transportation electrification. He will be an influential member in supporting the continued growth of the company across North America, particularly through its involvement in the development of the truck market, in preparation for the launch of our 100% electric trucks in the coming months.”

Provencher’s last day at PIT is this Friday, Aug. 31.
