Rockslide closes major highway in north BC

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. — A massive rockslide on Hwy 16 between Prince George and Prince Rupert, B.C., has closed the highway today.

According to Canadian Press, the slide occurred east of Terrace yesterday. RCMP estimate that debris more than 60 metres wide and 10 metres high is splashed across the key route.

No one was reported hurt.

The Transportation Ministry has sent geotechnical engineers to assess the situation.
