Safety Courses Required for New Brunswick Truckers

FREDERICTON — Independent truckers that work on New Brunswick highway projects will be required to take safety courses, the province announced last week.

By April 1, operators of private trucks working on highway projects and contracts must complete: Occupational Health and Safety Orientation, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System training and Work Area Traffic Control Manual Awareness Training.

Contractors will have to confirm that operators have taken the required training, the government noted, adding that a daily pre-trip inspection on their truck will also be required.

“Training and awareness programs are necessary steps to make construction sites safer,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Claude Williams. “These measures will improve safety for private truckers, department employees, contractors and the public on highway contracts and projects.”
