Sask. lawmakers reconsider pain and suffering

REGINA, Sask. — Saskatchewan drivers who are injured in an accident will soon have their right to sue for pain and suffering restored.

That right was stripped from motorists when the province implemented no-fault insurance years ago. Now, Saskatchewan is on the verge of becoming the only jurisdiction in North America to offer a tort auto insurance system along with its current no-fault insurance.

Changes to the Automobile Accident Insurance Act were introduced in the legislature yesterday and could take effect as early as next year.
