Slides, floods force highway closures

REVELSTOKE, B.C. — Unpredictable spring weather continues to affect transportation in Western Canada, with the Trans-Canada the latest highway to be closed following a series of mudslides.

The most recent mudslide happened yesterday morning, 46km east of Revelstoke — the third slide in less than 24 hours to take place between Revelstoke and the B.C.-Alberta border. The Trans-Canada Highway has since been re-opened.

In Invermere, another mudslide closed a road, and flooding blocked a road south of Chase.

Nobody has been injured in the slides, but earlier this year a B.C. Department of Highways worker was killed near Revelstoke when a mudslide swept him into a lake.
