Some Trucks Restricted on NY State Thruway

ALBANY, NY — Due to severe winter weather conditions, long tandem trailers have been banned on the Niagara Thruway (I-190) and on the New York State Thruway (I-90) between exit 25A and the Pennsylvania State Line, the Ontario Trucking Association reports.

Restrictions exist for long tandems in both directions between exit 25A to exit 61 at the Pennsylvania state line and the I-190 (Niagara section) until further notice (likely until tonight).

The NYS Thruway is also restricting company services from the highway. Instead, authorities say they will have a recovery unit patrolling the highway if a vehicle operator requires assistance. Operators can call 1-800-842-2233.

The region is experiencing severe winter weather, with blizzard conditions, limited visibility and high winds, which are expected to continue until this evening.

The Authority broadcasts information on Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) and activates Dynamic Message Signs (DMS).

The New York State Thruway (I-90) eastbound between exits 46 (Rochester) and 40 (Weedsport) is closed due to a multi-vehicle accident.
