Soot and speed return to Notre-Dame-du-Nord

NOTRE-DAME-DU-NORD, Que. – The results have been finalized from the annual Rodeo du Camion truck races in Notre-Dame-du-Nord, Que., run from Aug. 2-5.

Nicolas Gagnon led the Class A races in both the bobtail and loaded category. Jean-Luc Bosse came in second in the bobtail category, with Steve Goulet in second for the loaded competition. Martin Lalonde and Normand Lapointe came in third in bobtail and loaded, respectively.

In Class B, Martin couture led the bobtailing crowd, with Paulo Gagnon leading the way for loaded equipment. In the bobtail category here, Dominic Gauvreau and Stephane Gagnon came in second and third. For loaded equipment, Martin Couture and Michael Chartrand came in second and third.

In Class C, Pat Sigouin took the podium in bobtail and loaded categories. Among his bobtailing competitors, Richard Berkerton came second and Serge Touzin came third. In the loaded category, Martin Meilleur came second and Billy Tremblay placed third.

The first Rodeo was held in 1981 as part of a local fishing derby, with a dozen truckers showcasing their skills before a few hundred spectators. Today it annually feeds about $4.5 million into the local economy, organizer say.
