Great Dane Makes Webb Drum Standard

Webb Wheel Products will supply its Platinum Drum as standard equipment for Great Dane Trailers’s new SuperSeal XLT reefer trailer. Platinum Series brake drums are lighter than competitive drums and deliver extended life through low wear, resistance to heat checking and exceptional strength, Webb Wheel claims. The Platinum Series is also standard equipment on all Great Dane refrigerated trailers. Both Webb and Great Dane are owned by The Marmon Group of companies, a conglomerate of manufacturing and service companies.

Kenworth Adds Auto Transmission, Engine Options

Hoping to appeal to class-6 truck buyers, Kenworth says it will offer Allison 2000 Series and 2400 Series automatic transmissions for its T300 medium-duty truck. Both transmission models are fully automatic five-speeds with overdrive, lockup, and a powerful 32-bit microprocessor.

Power-take-off (PTO) drive gears are optional. Kenworth will mate the transmissions with Caterpillar’s 3126 engine rated at 545 foot-pounds of torque or below. A Spicer SPL100 driveline is part of the powertrain package.

Kenworth also announced that the Cummins Signature 600, Cummins ISX, and Caterpillar C-16 600-hp engines are now options for its T2000 on-highway tractor.

Allison to Go All Electronic

Allison Transmission this year will phase out its hydraulic transmissions, the MT 643, MT 653, and AT 545. The move means Allison will offer only electronically controlled automatics for the class-5 to -7 on-highway markets. The company says parts and remanufacturing for the AT and MT products will be available as long as commercial demand warrants.
