Start of Q4 Canadian Freight Index Up 19 Percent

TORONTO — Transcore’s Canadian Freight Index was up 19 percent year-over-year in October, reports Transcore, while month-over-month comparison showed a 5 percent drop.

October 2011 freight volume was at its highest since October 2005. While this year’s October levels were down from September, volume exceeded nine of the 12 months of 2010, and was the seventh highest spot market freight volume of 2011.

Equipment postings came in 2 percent lower than September volume, and capacity was 8 percent below levels for October 2010.

Equipment-to-loads, Transcore said, remained mostly unchanged.
