Tractor-trailer theft ring nabbed

TORONTO — An organized crime ring focused on stealing tractor-trailers within the GTA has been busted by a investigation, nicknamed Project Tic Toc.

According to the Toronto Star, a total of 23 people face 138 charges as a result of the year-long, joint police force operation, which also led officers to several mortgage fraud investigations, break-and-enters and vehicle insurance fraud, police say.

Police seized four vehicles, 18 partial trailer loads worth approximately $3 million, about $100,000 in cash, marijuana, cocaine, a .45-calibre handgun and several types of ammunition.

Several shipping containers loaded with stolen property were located and seized in Jamaica, police say.
