Trimac buys BC liquid chemical hauler

CALGARY – Western bulk hauling giant Trimac Transportation has acquired Benson Tank Lines’ assets and business for $4 million.

Benson Tank Lines is a 35-truck, 60-trailer family fleet that transports liquid chemicals primarily out of the greater Vancouver area, Washington State and Alberta. Its lanes extend to Saskatchewan, Oregon,Idaho, Montana, California as well.

Originally conceived in 1967 by Orval Benson as a trucking company supplying furnace oil deliveries for Shell Canada in the Vancouver lower mainland, Benson expanded in 1971 to more products, and two trucks.

Over time, it grew its geographic coverage and offerings while at the same time adding capacity at a steady rate.

"I would like to welcome Benson’s professional driving and administration staff to Trimac," said Ed Malysa, president and chief operating officer of Trimac. "Benson has been a well managed business for over 40 years.

"This acquisition is consistent with Trimac’s strategic objective to expand market share within its core product lines. Benson’s customer base, employees and assets complement our bulk chemical business in Western Canada."
