UPS restructures logistics group

ATLANTA (April 20) – The logistics division of United Parcel Service has restructured its transportation management companies into a single entity called the UPS Transportation Services Group in order to compete more effectively for a broader range of business.

The UPS Logistics Transportation Services Group is comprised of UPS Truck Leasing, Worldwide Dedicated Services, and Martrac, which specializes in temperature-controlled intermodal freight.

Individually, these three units will continue to offer transportation services in their areas of expertise, UPS said. In addition, as part of the Transportation Services Group, these companies will provide transportation services transcending company lines, meaning that UPS Logistics will look to third parties.

By combining the divisions, “We can provide integrated transportation management for shipments of all weights and sizes, as well as a comprehensive range of specialized services,” said Jim Thompson, Senior Vice President of the Transportation Services Group.

The logistics group also will include the UPS Transportation Resource Center located in Norcross, Ga. The centre provides design and engineering expertise, including information technology support, network optimization, logistics coordination, and carrier relations.
