Used Truck Market Makes Few Gains in October

COLUMBUS, IN – North American truckers bought about the same number of used trucks in October as they had in September, according to ACT Research. Class 8 used truck sales rose one percent in October compared to September 2014.

“The month over month gain came from the retail market which rose four percent, but results were tempered by softer activity in the auction and wholesale segments,” said Steve Tam, vice president of the commercial vehicle sector at ACT.

But the average selling price for Class 8 trucks increased 19 percent year-over-year.

Medium-duty used truck sales, however, were just as flat as used Class 8 sales in October and the overall price dropped because the average odometer mileage for Class 6 and 7 trucks rose.
