Video Teaches Drivers About CSA Tire Regulations

GREENVILLE, SC — Michelin North America and the Tire Industry Association (TIA) have come together to produce a free training video for Tire Safety Week, with a focus on the Compliance, Safety, Accountability (CSA) Program.

“This video will help the industry educate drivers and technicians on the federal inspection regulations for truck and bus tires,” said TIA Executive Vice President, Roy Littlefield.

Seconds shy of 17 minutes, the video covers valuable information in great detail.

Areas covered in the video include:

  • The CSA’s seven BASICS, which stands for behavior, analysis, safety, improvement and categories
  • What inspectors look for in each BASIC section
  • How points are given out
  • How SMS scores are calculated and what they mean
  • Which vehicle parts and accessories must be checked, under regulation, before each trip
  • A step by step guide of what an inspector will check when it comes to truck and bus tires

The video also identified and clarified common misconceptions about tire safety and regulations, what a driver can be ticketed for and the conditions which will lead a vehicle to being placed out of service.
